Cabling and Bracing
Cabling and Bracing provides extra safety support for branches and limbs with weak attachment.
These systems are especially useful in protecting your valuable specimen trees from splitting stems/trunks and tearing limbs.
Multi stemmed trees are particularly vulnerable, such as Pohutukawa, Liquidambar and Oak trees.
Trees that have not received proper care and attention either in the nursery or after planting can also be a problem. Branches or limbs with weak attachments are neglected and left to grow larger, rather than be removed at an early stage and letting the stronger, better formed branches and stems dominate.
A correctly installed cabling or bracing system has the strength and stability to minimise against this problem and protect against unnecessary damage.
Cabling is the securing of two or more stems together.
This allows both stems natural wind movement together, yet prevents them from being "torn apart".
Bracing is the "propping up" of very large, heavy drooping limbs, for support. The less weight or strain on the branch union, the less likely it is to fail.
