Planting

Ideally, every tree should be planted according to an overall landscape plan for your property. The plan should consider what effect you want the tree to have in the landscape, the plants’ size, and what their maintenance requirements might be.
Generally, shrubs and trees should be placed so they can develop freely, without crowding each other, the primary structures, utility lines or buildings.
Before selecting a spot for a tree, you need to find out its size when fully grown.
Preparation of the planting site is very important. Generally, holes should be at least as deep as the root ball & twice as wide. It‘s best not to fertilise until the tree is well established - at least one year. Regular watering is important for the development of a strong new root system in the site. Laying of mulch is recommended, as it assists in keeping the soil moist, as well as improving the quality of poor soil. Allow a full season of growth before corrective pruning.
